Never before have so many people possessed so much knowledge. Degrees, professional qualifications, online courses, research papers and decades of experience have become commonplace. Every day, universities produce thousands of graduates. Every year, millions of books are published. The internet has placed the world’s knowledge in the palm of our hands.

Yet one question refuses to disappear.

Why do some people transform what they know into opportunity, influence and lasting impact, while others—equally knowledgeable—remain stuck?

For years I have observed entrepreneurs, graduates, professionals, researchers, retirees and business owners wrestling with this paradox.

The entrepreneur who has built a successful business but cannot explain why it works.

The graduate with impressive academic credentials who struggles to gain traction.

The retired engineer carrying forty years of priceless experience that disappears the day he leaves the office.

For a long time, I believed the missing ingredient was education.

Then I thought it was confidence.
