MY FIRST JOURNAL PAPER IS PUBLISHED!

After more than 30 years in business, I keep returning to one uncomfortable question:

How can someone possess substantial education, expertise and experience—and still struggle to turn that knowledge into value?

I am delighted to share my first journal paper, published in the Westford Research Journal:

“THE KNOWLEDGE ACTIVATION PARADOX: Converting Possessed Knowledge into Demonstrable Contemporary Value.”

We often respond to uncertainty by seeking another qualification, another course or another certificate. Further learning can matter. But what happens to the knowledge we already possess?

The paper proposes a preliminary framework called ARMED:

• Audit the knowledge you already possess.
• Reinterpret it in light of changing circumstances.
• Map it to real problems and opportunities.
• Experiment with possible applications.
• Demonstrate the value created.

This is a conceptual framework requiring empirical testing. It offers a starting point for examining a challenge facing graduates, experienced professionals, retirees—and leaders seeking to put their employees’ knowledge to work.

For me, this publication brings years of practical questioning into scholarly conversation. It also informs my continuing work on knowledge activation and developmental storytelling through Uncle Rwamiti: Your Move.

Perhaps the next useful question is:

Before you learn another skill, what could you do with what you already know?
